We promote bilingualism by using the Welsh language across the curriculum and throughout the school day, encouraging the children to do the same. Welsh is also taught as a discrete subject throughout Foundation Phase and Key Stage 2. Each year group has specific schemes of work which enable children to progress in speaking, reading and writing in Welsh. All staff regularly receive training in Welsh as a second language and bilingualism. 

Pupils are also guided to develop and apply their knowledge and understanding of the cultural, historical, economic and environmental characteristics of Wales through a variety of curriculum enrichment activities, including our annual Eisteddfod celebrations.

We have a well-established Criw Cymraeg who work hard to promote the use of Welsh outside the classroom. They organise and run a weekly assembly Hero Cymraeg celebration award. We also send a Welsh diary home with them on occasion, to encourage the use of Welsh in all spheres. We have timetabled slots, on a daily basis, that we use to develop our learner’s Welsh oracy skills, too.

Our ongoing work in Welsh around the school was recently recognized when we were awarded our Cymraeg Campus Bronze Award. We are now working our way towards our Silver Award.
